Vision & Values

Vision

Nutshell version:

We are a circle of individuals, partners, and families who want to make and maintain interpersonal connections in a supportive setting, live and work in an ownership-based community, and apportion living and working spaces in other-than-conventional forms, on an affordable, multifamily property in the Austin area, where the design is based on ecological footprint principles and where the built form is a physical reflection of the Capital City’s best characteristics: self-expression, artistic creativity, welcoming hospitality, aesthetic beauty, clever utility, environmental ethos, collaborative cooperation, and exuberant celebration.

Original version:

We are a circle of individuals and families of any age, genetics, national origin, religion, gender identity, dietary preference, political leaning, or physical/mental ability who want to live or work as an ownership-based collective.

We are about maintaining interpersonal connections to apportion living and working spaces beyond traditional single-family homes, condominiums, or apartments, including (but not limited to) in-common and private areas for gardens, socializing, craft-making, dining, and storage.

We hope to develop or re-purpose an affordable, mixed-use, multifamily property in the Austin area based on Permaculture and ecological design principles in a mutually supportive climate.

Armadillo Cohousing strives to be a physical reflection of the Capital City’s best characteristics: self-expression, art/music/creativity, collaborative cooperation, exuberant celebration, welcoming hospitality, aesthetic beauty, clever utility, and environmental ethos.

It’s a first dive. There will be others…

  1. I agree w/ Dale Re housing and more. For me, the concept of diversity applies in many ways: people who will live and/or visit BohemiAustin, types of housing to include single, duplex, flats and other, built of various non-toxic materials, situated on grounds, a site, that includes gardens, orchard, pervious grounds, sport/play areas, other as will emerge.

  2. Bohemia does seem pretty fitting as long as we resist the urge to replace single family homes with single family homes closer to each other. I’m hoping that we will do something *different*. In fact, “to each their own” seems like the most inclusive form of housing, so some can do big houses and others a teepee.

  3. Your post said you made changes. I am unable to detect what you have changed and what has remained.
